The California Head Start State Collaboration Office is partnering with the Los Angeles County Office of Education and Head Start California to build awareness and engagement on an OHS Region IX priority: Head Start to TK/Kindergarten transition (HS – TK/K transition). We are excited about this work and hope the information is useful and helpful.
Goal of the Transition Project
The goal of the project is to support a strengthened approach, building a relationship between Head Start and TK/Kindergarten teachers. The project will engage at least five and no more than ten districts to collaborate with their local Head Start program to improve the process by which Head Start children and their families transition successfully to TK/K, using the LACOE Birth to Kindergarten Transition Systems Alignment Framework – Second as a guide and resource.
In 2019, the Office of Head Start engaged a few Grantees and Head Start Collaboration Offices across the county to support transition efforts. The LACOE team along with the California Head Start State Collaboration Office (CHSSCO) were chosen as one of the teams to take action. More information about this project can be found here. The LACOE team with input from stakeholders, parents, and state team members created a framework to support their ongoing plan and goals. The LACOE team hosted a virtual symposium in September 2020 to celebrate the culmination of a year-long demonstration project and share the work of the team by unveiling the Transition Framework Guide.
The LACOE framework now encompasses infant and toddlers and is called the Birth to Kindergarten Transition Systems Alignment Framework – Second Edition is now available in both English and Spanish. See below.
