When I separated from my partner and became a single mother of three, I needed a job to support my family. Fortunately, I found support for my daughter through the Head Start Home-Based program. Eventually I transitioned her to a center-based program. While she was enrolled, I was encouraged to join the Policy Council, which later led to a role on the Board of Directors as the Policy Council Representative. Through volunteering in various roles, I was inspired by my daughter’s Early Head Start teacher and Site Manager to begin substituting. After two years of substituting, with their encouragement I applied for a full-time position.
Seven years later, I am more passionate about my work than ever. Today, my daughter Lilly is thriving—confident in school and excelling in her classes.
Head Start gave her the early boost she needed to foster a love for learning and adapt to the classroom environment. Her transformation underscores the critical role of early education in setting children up for long-term academic and personal success.
Today I am a Head Start Office/Data Clerk and am deeply committed to empowering children and their families. I believe every child deserves a strong foundation for success, regardless of their background. I’ve seen firsthand the profound impact early education can have—how it not only shapes a child’s future but uplifts entire families, just as it did mine. For me, this work is about giving back, fostering growth, and creating opportunities for others to thrive. I am driven by my belief in the transformative power of education and my desire to be part of that positive change for as many families as possible.
