Major changes to early childhood teacher permits are impending on two fronts.
First, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) is currently considering regulations to implement AB 1930, HSC’s bill to end the ten-year limit on Associate Teacher Permits. The regulations are procedurally necessary to effectuate the change required by AB 1930. A public comment period on the proposed regulations is open until Thursday, February 27. You can view the proposed regulations here, and use this template to submit your comment letter in support.
For those who have recently lost their Associate Teacher Permit and are looking forward to getting it back, we recommend reviewing the CTC’s FAQ page on re-obtaining a lapsed permit. If you have not completed your 105 hours of professional development, you are able to obtain a provisional two-year permit, during which time you must complete your 105 hours. If you have completed your 105 hours (which can be done at any time during or after the term of your second permit), you can skip the provisional two-year permit and simply re-apply for your full five-year permit.
Second, this Thursday, February 6, the CTC will be hearing results of a field survey regarding major proposed changes to the Child Development Permit Matrix. The survey results, staff recommendations, and meeting access information are available on the Commission’s website. The item will be presented at approximately 10:00 am. We encourage you to join this virtual meeting and share your two minutes of comment on the proposals.
