Head Start California is delighted to introduce its newest team member, Edwin Abarca, who joins us as the Administrative and Finance Coordinator. In this role, Edwin will be responsible for maintaining the association’s financial records, human resources and event registration support.

Bringing a wealth of experience in office operations, Edwin most recently served at a local pistachio farm where he managed a team responsible for human resources, accounting, purchasing, customer service, and industrial safety. His professional background extends to various industries, including startups, tech, and telecommunications. Executive Director Melanee Cottrill expressed gratitude for Edwin’s addition, noting, “We’re fortunate to have Edwin join our team, given the depth and relevance of his experience. I am confident he will play a key role in serving our members and taking HSC to the next level.”

Edwin is enthusiastic about contributing his skills to our association and supporting Head Start’s mission. He expressed his eagerness, stating, “I’m excited to learn all I can about Head Start, and how we help support the community.” This passion is rooted in his personal connection, as he has a four-year-old daughter attending preschool. Edwin recognizes the significance of quality early childhood education, sharing, “My daughter, Audrey, comes home each day thrilled to share stories of her paintings and the books that were read to her. Having been a Head Start kid myself, I understand the importance of providing children with a nurturing and educational environment.”

In addition to his daughter, Edwin and his wife Kathy are parents to a 13-month-old son named Alex. “My family is everything to me.” he emphasized. Edwin acknowledges the challenges and joys of parenting during these crucial years and, when not working, enjoys rooting on the 49’ers, Dodgers, and Lakers, the outdoors and dancing to Disney movie songs in the living room with his kids.

Look out for Edwin at our conferences and events; if you encounter him, please take a moment to introduce yourself.
