The Power of 2 (Our $2 Per Child Campaign)
This is about children who most need our help.
Head Start and Early Head Start give children from at-risk backgrounds the skills they need to be successful in school and life – supporting more kids, families and communities on their path to success. The federal government’s 50-year investment in Head Start has helped put more than a million children on that path.
Every child deserves an opportunity to succeed. We can help make that happen with the Head Start California’s $2 Per Child Campaign, created to support the advocacy work of Head Start California and National Head Start Association (NHSA). For every $2 donated:
$1 goes to Head Start California and $1 goes to NHSA.
Here’s how it works
2 dollars, 2 minutes, 2 friends
- Donate $2 – to give.
- Ask 2 friends to give $2.
- Take 2 minutes to post on Facebook or Twitter. #powerof2 #headstartca
We can do more, two at a time!
We are committed to ensuring that, as federal grantees, your membership dollars (about 15% of our budget) are not used for lobbying. But the work of advocacy is core to our mission — it’s why your association exists. It requires a wide range of activity: collecting and organizing data, building coalitions with other advocates, communicating with members, and educating legislators and staff at the state and federal level. This requires resources like websites and apps, marketing and communications, time and travel — especially to Washington.
Your contributions make it possible for us to expand our network of advocacy and strengthen our collective capacity to better defend the critical work you do every day – providing gold standard services and care to California’s most at-risk infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Your $2 might be the most important gift you give this year — because it directly impacts 100,000+ Head Start and Early Head Start Children.
These voluntary contributions are critical for our advocacy efforts, building our capacity in California and our nation’s capital to:
- Monitor federal legislation and regulations impacting Head Start
- Share our story with state and federal policy makers
- Educate the public about Head Start successes and how programs are funded
- Build state and national coalitions that support at-risk families.
Who we are
Head Start California is the premier advocacy organization for Head Start agencies throughout California. We advocate for our members at the federal, state and local level to secure more funding, achieve beneficial policy changes and better serve California’s children aged 0-5 who are most at-risk.
The National Head Start Association’s (NHSA) vision is to lead – to be the untiring voice that will not be quiet until every vulnerable child is served with the Head Start model of support for the whole child, the family and the community – and to advocate – to work diligently for policy and institutional changes that ensure all vulnerable children and families have what they need to succeed.
